Beyond Chrysant opens Beyond Experience
To let as many people as possible experience the world of horticulture. With that goal in mind, Wouter Duijvesteijn and Martijn Duijvesteijn came up with their Beyond Experience, a special exhibition at the nursery in Hoek van Holland that tells the story of horticulture. On Thursday 28 November 2024, the mayor of the municipality of Westland, Bouke Arends, officially opened the Beyond Experience.
With the Beyond Experience, Wouter and Martijn want to show visitors to Beyond Chrysant not only how chrysanthemums are grown, but also introduce them to horticulture in its full breadth. "As gardeners, we have to tell our story. In recent years, I have often wondered: can I still be a gardener? Sometimes it seems as if everyone is against you," says Wouter. "That is how the plan to build an Experience came about last year. Sanne Duijvesteijn took up the task of running the Experience. With 20 signs, we show in a simple way what happens in and around the greenhouse and tell the story of horticulture to the outside world."
Dialogue
Mayor Bouke Arends of Westland is positive about the Beyond Chrysant initiative. He emphasizes that he finds it important that growers enter into dialogue with people from outside the horticulture sector. "For the sector's right to exist, it is of great importance that growers tell their story and are transparent about the goals that the sector is pursuing, even if it is not yet completely successful. They should not shy away from criticism." The mayor calls on other greenhouse growers to also take steps. "That does not necessarily have to be an Experience like Beyond Chrysant. "Think of something that suits your company."
Thanks to the help of many partners, Wouter and Martijn Duijvesteijn saw their dream of an Experience become reality. For example, they could count on support from suppliers, Glastuinbouw Nederland and Stichting Innovatie Glastuinbouw Nederland (SIGN).

During the opening of the Experience, the Flower Council of Holland announced conclusions from new scientific research on the unconscious emotions and associations with flowers. Flowers demonstrably contribute positively to human well-being. Flowers cheer you up, the research shows, and give you a relaxed feeling, they make your house a cozy home. Flowers are much more than just a colorful gift. They not only make the world more beautiful but also happier and healthier.
