Andrés Idrobo, Genviv, on Redvolution:

“It’s not just a rose, it’s a statement piece that blends agronomic excellence with timeless elegance”

Introducing a new red rose to the market is no easy feat for any breeder, but Genviv embraced the challenge and delivered remarkable results. After two years of rigorous commercial trials, they launched their latest variety in 2023. Today, it is being sold across the United States and Europe and is successfully making its way into emerging markets. The red rose in question is Redvolution®. "It's not just a rose, it's a statement piece that blends agronomic excellence with timeless elegance," says Andrés Idrobo, Director of Genviv.

Redvolution's USPs
What sets this variety apart? According to Idrobo, it represents the perfect harmony of beauty with advanced floral engineering. "The rose has a classic allure. Its crimson petals, vibrant foliage, and strong stems radiate sophistication, making it a versatile option for any occasion."

In terms of crop management, Redvolution is an excellent alternative, he continues, due to its robust field performance and impressive post-harvest handling. "Its availability in longer grades (60-80cm) and high productivity of 1.2 - 1.3* make it an ideal new red rose. And so far, growers have been particularly pleased by its quality and reliability."

Idrobo also highlights that buyers appreciate the variety for its generous petal count, minimal thorns, and consistent color. "With an exceptional vase life of up to 14 days, it meets the highest industry standards. Consumers are drawn to its elegant charm, seeing it as an enduring symbol of love and luxury," he remarks.

Aligning with current floral trends
According to Idrobo, Redvolution is well-aligned with current floral trends. "It embodies both tradition and modern appeal. Its rich color taps into the growing demand for bold, statement-making flowers, while its large bloom and minimal thorns cater to consumers who seek both beauty and practicality. Also, as sustainability becomes increasingly important, Redvolution sets itself apart with its superior handling at the post-harvest level, which reduces waste and extends its longevity in the field and the vase. This variety's versatility makes it a natural fit for the evolving preferences of today's market."

Valentine's Day 2025 expectations and beyond
With Valentine's Day quickly approaching, expectations for Redvolution are soaring. Idrobo expects that this variety is poised to become a top choice for the holiday season. "Farms in both Ecuador and Colombia have continually expressed confidence in Redvolution, as it has surpassed various agronomic and commercial benchmarks. Its brilliant hue and premium craftsmanship make it a must-have for those satisfying the discerning needs of V-Day floral shoppers."

Looking beyond the holiday, Genviv anticipates continued growth in production areas for 2025, with strong demand that still outpaces supply. "This enthusiasm signals promising prospects for Redvolution, positioning it as a standout in domestic and international markets."
