The Westland Municipality and Royal FloraHolland have jointly come to a proposal to take over and lease land. With this land, the development of Flora Campus Westland can start. The city council adopted the proposal at its meeting on 3 December.
The next step is to submit it to the Royal FloraHolland members' council for approval on 12 December. If the members' council agrees, the contracts will be signed on 16 December.
Councillor Ben van der Stee: "This is a milestone. I am very happy that we have reached an agreement with Royal FloraHolland. The total area for Flora Campus Westland is now almost complete. If this proposed decision goes through, the first land will be released on 2 January 2025. Then we can start building immediately."
Land partly acquired and partly by long lease
The acquisition and leasehold of 9 hectares of land should take place by 2 January 2025. Most of the land will be purchased by the municipality. The municipality will also take over the investments already made. In addition, the municipality will take out a perpetual ground lease for a small part of the land. This allows Royal FloraHolland to retain influence over a piece of land next to its future new construction site TPW Mars.
"Flora Campus Westland will soon be the place where all the knowledge and passion surrounding greenhouse horticulture come together. Entrepreneurs meet here and address issues surrounding technology in greenhouse horticulture, growing healthy food, and creating a healthy living environment. Entrepreneurs also meet pupils at Vakcollege+, students, researchers, and neighbors living in the area here. This creates a lively working, living, and learning environment."
