Japan: Dümmen Orange relocates cut flower carnation trial fields

Dümmen Orange has relocated its cut flower carnation trial fields from Shizuoka Prefecture to Aichi Prefecture, one of Japan's largest carnation production regions.

The starting material for the trials in Japan comes from Dümmen Orange's breeding facilities in Spain. There, a range of varieties undergo evaluation. Data points, including Fusarium resistance test results, calyx splitting rates, and harvest counts per flowering cycle, are analyzed to identify promising candidates. These varieties then undergo further trials in Japan, where they are evaluated for stem quality, flower formation, and productivity under local growing conditions.

"Only the most outstanding varieties, those that pass through this highly selective process, are introduced to the Japanese market. These varieties not only support a stable domestic supply of premium cut flower carnations but also provide growers with reliability, higher yields, and exceptional market value."

The first exhibition at the new trial field in Aichi Prefecture is scheduled for 2025.
