US: School has a purpose for poinsettia growth

Poinsettia plants are a familiar sign of the holiday season. And nowhere is the name Poinsett more recognized than in Greenville. While plant sales bloom during this time of the year, there is a school in the Upstate that sells poinsettias with a purpose.

Hillcrest High School, in Simpsonville, greenhouse is full of Christmas cheer.

"This is probably the best crop in 10 years. I'm extremely proud of the hard work. These young people have done," according to Mr. Mark Earle, an agriculture teacher.

After months of care and attention, these poinsettia plants are ready for the school's annual poinsettia sale. Mr. Earle makes a good argument for buying plants from the school, "probably the biggest selling point is that this is local. We talk about supporting local businesses. This is a school, but it's also a local business."

Mr. Earle is just as proud of this year's crop as he is of his agriculture students.
