According to Asocolflores, the relevance of Colombian floriculture is not only evident by its ranking as the world's second-largest exporter but also by its outstanding participation over the years in the AIPH International Grower of the Year (IGOTY) Award. These awards, organized by the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) in collaboration with Royal FloraHolland and FloraCulture International (FCI), highlight best practices and innovation in international ornamental plant production.
This award recognizes the best in floriculture in the categories of plants and trees, cut flowers and bulbs, young plants, and sustainability. The winner will receive the Golden Rose, which highlights excellence in production, sustainability, and human resources management.Flowers of Colombia has been presented with several nominations and awards. Currently, Colombian floriculture is represented by two nominees that aim to reflect the competitiveness of the national floriculture. "We hope their efforts will be recognized in the next edition of the IGOTY to be held on January 28, 2025, in IPM Essen, Germany."
The nominees
The nominees that will represent Flowers of Colombia in this edition of the AIPH International Grower of the Year are:
Gaitana Farms: This Colombian family business with 40 years of experience is one of the 10 finalists. "With 43 hectares in Sabana de Bogotá dedicated to the production of carnations and bouquets, Gaitana Farms stands out for its commitment to the highest standards of quality, sustainability, and social responsibility in each of its processes." The company serves customers in the European Union and is certified by Florverde Sustainable Flowers.
David Marín (Director of Deliflor Americas S.A.S.), one of the three nominees in the Young Grower of the Year category. He is selected for his contribution to innovation in the sector through the project 'The Chrysanthemum House' in the region of La Ceja, Antioquia. "The project implements cutting-edge technology that improves production processes and sustainable agricultural practices."
Flowers of Colombia has been recognized for this award in past editions. In 2023, the company SB Talee received the Silver Rose in recognition for flower production. And Flores El Capiro S.A. was awarded the Gold Rose in 2017. Additionally, Pablo Bazzani was named Young Grower of the Year in 2022.
