Banning the bunch of flowers? Not eating eggs because of Pfas anxiety? Belgian toxicologist Jan Tytgat, an authority in his field, thinks it is richly exaggerated, he tells Dutch newspaper AD. Let's worry about substances that are proven toxic, such as asbestos, fentanyl and leaf blowers running on two-stroke oil, he suggests in the newspaper. "I think other substances deserve more attention."
According to the KU Leuven researcher, toxicology makes an important distinction between risk and danger. "I like to compare that to the zoo. When you visit it with your children, you meet dangerous animals like venomous snakes and lions. But as long as the staff work correctly and keep the cages closed, there is no risk. With pesticides, it is exactly the same."
