Twan van Duijn (Duijn-Hove)

NL: "Ficuses from our own nursery are incorporated into larger terrariums"

The terranium collection of Duijn-Hove in Maasland, the Netherlands, is expanding every year. The company has developed a range of about 20 different models, from small hanging varieties to large, round glass globes.

Terrariums
A hanging variant has recently been added, Twan van Duijn reveals during a visit to Duijn-Hove. He is jointly responsible for sales within the company. The terrariums incorporate different types of plants. "The smaller plants are perfect for the small terrariums, and even ficus are included in the larger varieties." The ficus are grown at Duijn-Hove's own nursery, while other plants, such as aglaonemas, are purchased.

"Each terrarium is carefully put together," Twan explains. "The finish with natural cork makes the terrariums unique; this was quite a search for us. They have integrated lighting in the cap, including a charging cord for convenience." As Duijn-Hove is part of Decorum, the terrariums are marketed as Decorum concepts.

Duijn-Hove has a total of more than 2,200 supply lines and operates four sites with a total of 10 hectares of growing area. Besides the terrariums, the company also has a wide range of single plants such as Sansevieria, Aglaonema, Cordyline, Zamioculcas, Cycas, Phalaenopsis, Livistona, and they specialize in the Beaucarnea. Duijn-Hove offers this plant in pot sizes ranging from small to large, with pot size 60 being the outlier. "We sell these large varieties online with a picture by number (every plant is different and unique), because there is so much diversity in them. This way, the customer knows exactly which plant they are getting," Twan explains.

Valentine's Day
Another important part of Duijn-Hove's range is the Phalaenopsis. This is grown in different colors, shapes, and sizes at one of the other locations. With Valentine's Day approaching, it can be seen that they are already preparing for it at the nursery too. Phalaenopsis in heart shapes, pots with heart prints, or plants with texts like 'I love you'.

Although not all products come in ceramic as standard, Duijn-Hove offers customers a wide range of options. Are there any new projects in the pipeline? Twan: "We always have new ideas; maybe something new will come on the market soon."
