Nowadays in India, Valentine's Day is celebrated with great enthusiasm, especially among the younger generation. Valentine's Day has become increasingly popular in recent years mainly in urban areas.
Many young Indians see Valentine's Day as an opportunity to express their love and affection for their partners, friends and family members. They celebrate this day by exchanging gifts, fresh flowers mainly red Dutch roses and bouquets of roses, greeting cards, and spending quality time in restaurants and public gardens with their loved ones. So-called political parties who initially opposed celebrating Valentine's Day in India are now afraid and cannot afford to oppose due to fear of decreasing their support in elections (mainly by youngsters).
Gangaram More, a senior wholesaler from Pune flower market, had booked orders for Roses in advance and said almost all wholesalers expect brisk business on Valentine's Day.
Shubham Abnave owner of Sayali Florist a second-generation young retail florist has stocked Tulips in 6-7 different shades and anticipates large demand, he orders and imports it through one of the importers of Mumbai.
Prathamesh Bhosle, floral accessories supplier and authorized distributor of Smithers Oasis from the Pune flower market had stocked plenty of accessories, mainly including heart-shaped Oasis patterns, containers, baskets, gift wrappers, ribbons, sleeves etc. Hat boxes and purses for flowers are in trend, he adds.
Pune is one of the largest producing districts in India for fresh flowers. Almost all flower growers stop exporting fresh flowers from 10th February, because they get an equal price for the flowers from the domestic market, so local florists also get export quality fresh roses to sell in their shops. With the help of the local Pune Florist Association and the strong and reliable network of the India Florist Association, all members register their orders in advance for this highest-selling week of the year for flowers. It is very easy to deliver flowers at competitive prices, fast and timely service and the best quality of flowers and bouquets, informs Pandharinath Mhaske coordinator of IFA.
