The launch of Dante, the latest Primula series, with extra large flowers, represents opportunities for the Primula market. With a flower diameter of 8-9 cm, the latest mid-early season Dante series brings color and vibrancy to any garden and balcony during the winter months.
Dante
The new Primula Dante series will be launched in April 2025 and initially consist of a mix of seven colors, with the introduction of individual colors expected for 2026. The enormous flower diameter of 8-9 cm makes it a true eyecatcher. The prolonged blooming that starts at the end of December/January and February, which belongs to the mid-early segment, adds fantastic color to any garden and balcony during the bare winter months. For consumers, the Dante is a true long-flowering biannual. For growers, the series is very uniform for an efficient production process. Dante is especially suited to those markets that prize large-flowered Primulas.
Dania
The Dania and Danique series, with the largest flowers in their class, which Sakata previously launched are capturing market share thanks to the high degree of uniformity and genetic compactness of the series. Dania is an attractive, uniform series that thrives in less cool conditions, making it ideal for the mid-early season market with supply as from December to mid-February. Danique has been developed for flowering with supply as from January and February and is therefore perfectly suited to the mid-season segment. Available in eight (Dania) and nine (Danique) bold colors, they are ideal for packs and pots measuring 9-10.5 cm.
Danique
On Wednesday, February 19th & Thursday, February 20th, Sakata organizes Primula Open Days at W. Robinson Plants (Baginton Nurseries) at Warwichshire CV8 3BA, England. The new extra large flowering Dante series and previous launches Dania and Danique will be presented during these extensive flower trials, together with genetics from other breeders to enable proper comparison.
