Smelly sticky trap attracts whiteflies and thrips

Perfume is a popular gift for Valentine's Day, but have you ever thought of treating your greenhouse pests to a scented surprise? The team at Davik Industries has launched a bug trap that's not only sticky but also smelly. The product, named Super Catchy, was introduced at Fruit Logistica 2025. Marina Arshavsky Rosental with Davik Industries says the product was designed to tackle two of the most challenging greenhouse pests: tobacco whitefly and thrips spp.

"Sticky traps are an important part of integrated pest management strategies to monitor and reduce insect populations," Marina explains. "We've studied how we could improve the design of the trap to expand the effectiveness of the trapping method, potentially reducing reliance on chemical crop protection." That's why Super Catchy doesn't just rely on color to attract pests; it also utilizes a unique scent. Davik Industries developed a proprietary scent formulation that lures both adult male and female tobacco whiteflies and thrips.

"Whiteflies and thrips are notoriously difficult to control with conventional pesticides and are often undetectable until they've caused crop damage. With Super Catchy, we address pest populations at a critical stage. By targeting these hard-to-detect pests early, it's possible to prevent severe crop damage, and we can help growers maintain healthy crops."

The scent is combined with color-specific roller sheets: yellow for various insects, blue for thrips, and black for Tuta absoluta, all built on the existing Catchy brand. "Catchy features a superior adhesive coating that ensures effective pest capture. The combination Super Catchy offers, of visual and olfactory cues, creates a dual-attraction mechanism. With this combination, growers are able to address this challenge head-on," says Marina.
