Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) set a new record this Valentine's season, processing an astounding 44 million rose stems weighing 1,649 metric tonnes (MT) for shipment to 22 international and 38 domestic destinations.
Last year, KIA handled 29 million rose stems. This represents a 50% year-on-year surge in the number of stems processed and a 35% increase in tonnage, reaffirming KIA's position as India's leading gateway for perishable exports for the fourth consecutive year.
The soaring global demand for fresh-cut roses resulted in a significant boost in international shipments, with a 51% increase in international tonnage and an 86% surge in the number of rose stems exported compared to last year's data of nine million stems bound for international destinations and 20 million stems shipped domestically. Key international destinations for these shipments included Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Sharjah, Kuwait, Auckland, Amman, Manila, Riyadh, Colombo, and Abu Dhabi.
