Javoy Plantes introduces I.C.O.:

“Together, let’s cultivate the city of tomorrow”

That is the slogan of Javoy Plantes, one of the leading producers of climbers and clematis in France. Recently recognized with the Certificate of Merit by the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) at IPM Essen 2025, the nursery also embraced the société à mission status in 2024 – the year they celebrated the company's 40th anniversary. Alongside other certifications and labels, it is committed to environmental and social progress alongside its business objectives. A novel concept that aligns with these goals is I.C.O., "the first European patented removable greenery solution designed to seamlessly integrate nature into urban structures," explains Marie-Laure Rauline, the second-generation owner of the nursery.

I.C.O.
At the IPM Essen, they showcased this new concept for the second time and this, year it has been officially patented and introduced. But what is I.C.O.? Marie-Laure Rauline explains: "As cities worldwide struggle with climate change and the need for more sustainable environments, I.C.O.® offers an effective way to introduce greenery into dense urban spaces. The system combines a removable cable with a winch and pre-grown climber, ensuring an immediate visual impact while simplifying installation and maintenance. The concept includes a plant recommended based on the region, soil type, exposure, and application."

What about the advantages?
"Firstly, it provides an instant green coverage as the plants grown directly on a cable providing an immediate aesthetic transformation. Secondly, it is flexible and scalable as it is adaptable to various structures, from buildings to urban canopies. Thirdly, the ensures effortless maintenance as the removable cable system allows easy plant care, reducing costs and effort. And last but not leaset it is an eco-friendly option as it is manufactured entirely in Orléans, using 70% recycled water and recyclable supports."

And the environmental and urban benefits?
I.C.O. aligns with the growing demand for urban biodiversity, offering benefits that go beyond aesthetics and ease, as Rauline explains. "By integrating green spaces into cityscapes, the system helps cool urban heat islands, absorb CO₂, and even serves as an anti-graffiti solution for isolated walls. The benefits of I.C.O. include heat reduction, as green facades regulate temperature and create a more comfortable urban climate; air quality improvement, as plants naturally absorb CO₂ and pollutants; enhanced urban aesthetics and protection, ideal for covering buildings, shading streets, and preventing vandalism; and improved safety and accessibility, with design features that minimize the need for high-altitude maintenance work."

A mission driven nursery
In a world facing climate urgency and social change, plants play a more critical role than ever, and Javoy Plantes has always been aware of its responsibility. This year, the nursery was recognized for its excellence in horticulture, receiving the Certificate of Merit from the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) during the 'International Grower of the Year' awards at IPM Essen 2025. This recognition, along with other labels such as Plante Bleue, Fleurs de France, CCVS, BPI France, and organic farming, highlights the nursery's commitment to innovation, sustainability, and exceptional plant production. In 2024, Javoy Plantes took its commitment a step further by becoming a société à mission—a legally recognized status in France that formalizes a company's dedication to environmental and social progress alongside economic performance.

Located just an hour from Paris, over 40 hectares of high-quality, protected agricultural land near Orléans serve as the perfect environment for their operations. Specializing in climbers, Javoy Plantes offers a wide range of products and services, from individual customers to large-scale landscaping projects. Through this transition, the nursery aims to set an example for responsible and sustainable horticulture, producing over 1.2 million plants annually across 8 hectares, including 200 varieties of clematis and 300 climbing plants. "We are dedicated to sustainability, with 100% of water and inputs recovered from watertight areas, continuing to lead as France's top clematis producer."
