Interplant East-Africa Open Days 2025

"A meaningful experience that goes beyond typical industry showcases"

Last week, Interplant Roses held their Open Days event at their facilities in Naivasha, Kenya for the Open Days. Organized jointly by Flowerwatch and Interplant Roses, this year's edition was themed: "Sustainable Together."

"At Interplant, we believe in creating meaningful experiences that go beyond typical industry showcases. This philosophy was evident in our carefully curated program featuring thought leaders who are actively shaping the future of the floriculture industry through sustainable practices", the rose breeding company says.

Expert insights on sustainability
The event featured a lineup of speakers, expertly moderated by Maarten van Schie from Practical Impact, who facilitated engaging and interactive discussions throughout the seminar: Ashlea Gulle from Hoek Group delivered an insightful presentation on greening the supply chain. She detailed how their company ensures flowers reach florists worldwide with remarkable speed and efficiency while maintaining their commitment to environmental responsibility.

Jeroen van de Hulst from Flowerwatch offered a comparative analysis between the flower and vegetable industries, with particular focus on packrates. His presentation highlighted critical areas where the floriculture sector can make meaningful sustainability improvements.
Elfrieke van Galen from the Rockgroup expanded horizons with her talk on "Beyond Carbon," sharing valuable insights on how her consultancy guides companies toward comprehensive sustainability practices that consider factors beyond carbon footprints.

Interactive learning and collaboration
What made this Open Days event particularly valuable was the interactive format. Rather than passive presentations, attendees engaged in dynamic discussions, sharing perspectives and collectively exploring solutions to industry challenges. This collaborative approach perfectly embodied the "Sustainable Together" theme, emphasizing that meaningful progress requires industry-wide cooperation.

Exploring innovation
Following the enlightening seminar, attendees had the opportunity to tour Interplant's showgreenhouse, and look at new and unique varieties which show the next generation of rose breeding. The visit extended to the trial fields for Royal van Zanten and Kolster, providing a comprehensive view of floriculture innovation in action.

The successful Open Days event reaffirmed the industry's commitment to sustainable development and highlighted the importance of knowledge sharing across the floriculture value chain. As we continue to face environmental challenges, such collaborative platforms prove essential in creating a more sustainable future for flower cultivation and distribution.

Interplant Roses remains dedicated to leading by example, not just through our premium rose varieties, but through our commitment to bringing industry stakeholders together to address our collective sustainability responsibilities.
