Ahead of International Women's Day, Turkey has sent a record number of cut flowers—75 million pieces to 34 countries. This was reported by the Kazinform agency, citing Anadolu.
Turkish women make up 80% of the workforce in the flower-growing and packaging industry.
According to Ismail Yılmaz, head of the Association of Exporters of Ornamental Plants, flowers are grown on 6,000 hectares of land, with women being responsible for harvesting and packaging them.
Demand for Turkish flowers has increased by 10% compared to last year, with major buyers being the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Germany, Bulgaria, and Romania. Despite the difficult political situation, flowers were even sent to Russia and Ukraine.
Yılmaz noted that flowers have become a popular symbol of attention and respect, replacing expensive yet less meaningful gifts.
