Over 50,000 orchids imported from Thailand to Siberia for International Women’s Day

According to Dmitry Kolykhanov, Deputy Head of the Siberian Customs Administration, more than 30 tons of flowers were brought to the region just before International Women's Day. Since the beginning of 2025, over 50 tons of flowers have been imported, with a total value exceeding 41 million rubles (over 400,000 euros). Traditionally, the largest shipments consist of roses and carnations. Deliveries are coming from 13 countries, including Ecuador, the Netherlands, Kyrgyzstan, Colombia, Kenya, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, and Thailand.

Kolykhanov mentioned that in 2024, flowers began arriving from China and Turkey. Turkey primarily delivers carnations, while China is sending a variety of live flowers, including chrysanthemums, roses, hydrangeas, tulips, and daisies. In addition to these, dried flowers such as hydrangeas, oats, flax, lavender, and ozothamnus are now being imported. Among the "new" items, customs officials have noted sunflowers and plants preserved in glycerin.

"Dried flowers are imported in smaller quantities, but the list of types is constantly expanding," added Kolykhanov.

Among the flowers that arrived in Siberia this year were 195,000 white roses (11 tons), 150,000 chrysanthemums (11 tons), and 119,000 carnations (3.7 tons). In time for International Women's Day, over three tons of flowers were brought from Thailand, including 50,000 orchids and 9,500 carnations.

According to the Siberian Customs Administration, the most expensive roses are imported from Colombia, valued at 70 rubles (€0.73) each. The most expensive orchids come from the Netherlands, priced at 250 rubles (€2.6) each. Among carnations, the most expensive ones are from Italy, priced at 50 rubles (€0.52) per flower.
