This week, the temperature in the Netherlands is rising again, and it is noticeable in trade. According to Ronald van Norde of Agora, people are clearly getting hungry for spring again.

Into the garden
"Sales of bulbs and garden plants are doing especially well. As soon as the sun shines, consumers head into the garden," says Ronald. "Daffodil and hyacinth bulbs are very popular, and blue grapes and pansies are also in high demand." In contrast, the flower trade is a bit quieter at the moment, partly due to the firm prices in recent weeks.
Good expectations
Flower prices are high partly due to holidays such as Valentine's Day and International Women's Day. The upcoming English Mother's Day is also holding up prices a bit, according to Ronald. "There was not an excessive supply, but expectations for this year are better than last year. The weather conditions are already a lot more favorable than last year, so the trade is positive in that regard."
Tulip season
Still, the flower trade is not completely at a standstill, and prices are slowly starting to fall slightly. "Lisianthus sales always continue, and the trade in them has now become a bit smoother. But these flowers were very expensive for a long time. As soon as the price drops, trade picks up immediately, as we are now seeing with roses and lilies. Tulip season is currently in full swing; tulips are currently the best-selling flowers."
