Photo report Open Day Monarch Flowers

NL: A colorful sea of ranunculus

The sun is shining, the greenhouse is full of colorful ranunculus and buyers, designers, florists and other interested parties are walking around to see what's on offer at Monarch Flowers this season. The open day attracts many customers and is a great success, according to Jelle van der Werken of Coloríginz.

"Here in the show greenhouse, we show our current range of Ranunculus Romance and Ranunculus Butterfly. Also on display here are all the new, not yet commercial varieties. Eventually, partly with feedback from our customers and visitors, the new varieties are selected here for next season. The colors appeal enormously, but the length and size also stand out. One of the new varieties really stands out and is very popular," he says while showing the white with bright pink Ranunculus. His colleague Gert-Jan Jungerius adds: "The quality of the Romance series is very good. They have a dense, sturdy stem, huge flowers and lots of length ranging from 50 to as long as 70 centimeters!"

Coloríginz has a close collaboration with breeder Green Works and grower Monarch Flowers. The entire production is marketed through Coloríginz' channels and online platforms.

"In the Netherlands, cultivation is from mid-March to late April/early May and in six weeks, as many as 2 million stems go out. When the cultivation is over, the plantlets die off and claws grow in the ground. These go out in June, and are then prepared and sent to our partner growers in Italy and Kenya," says Gert-Jan. "Thus, the beautiful Ranunculus Butterfly are now available year-round through Coloríginz' platform."

In any case, the Open Day was another success, the men think. To hold on to the 'ranunculus feeling' for a while longer, visitors were given a beautiful bunch of Ranunculus Butterfly to take home.
