The annual Tulip Day at Union Square in San Francisco has once again taken place. On March 22, starting as early as 7:00 AM, visitors gathered in line to take part in this vibrant event. The "tulip garden", which opened its gates to the public at 1:00 PM, gave thousands of people the opportunity to pick tulips for free and enjoy the beauty of this iconic Dutch flower.

The event, first held in San Francisco in 2018 by Royal Anthos, highlights the strong trade and cultural ties between the Netherlands and the United States. America is one of the largest markets for flower bulbs, which are shipped to the U.S. through Dutch trading companies. Meanwhile, cut tulips are grown locally by American flower farmers, emphasizing the close collaboration between the two countries in the horticultural sector.
Royal Anthos, the representative of Dutch flower bulb trading companies, was the driving force behind this event. In 2024, Anthos organized its first "tulip garden" in New York, while the event in San Francisco was taken over by the Union Square Alliance. The "tulip garden" marks the festive beginning of a series of flower-related events in the city, aimed at revitalizing the area. Following the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused many shops and restaurants to close, this initiative has played a key role in the revival of Union Square and its surroundings.

This event was made possible through a collaboration between the city of San Francisco, the Union Square Alliance, Royal Anthos, and a group of dedicated volunteers from the Dutch flower bulb sector. The Tulip Picking Garden not only brings color and joy to the city, but also highlights the power of international cooperation and the enduring bond between the Netherlands and the United States.
The second edition of the "tulip garden" in New York will take place on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Union Square in Manhattan.
