US: Novel Echinacea variety makes its debut

Terra Nova Nurseries has debuted its latest echinacea marketplace innovation: Echinacea 'Fringe Festival'. This novel introduction from Terra Nova has fringe-like petals and strap-shaped foliage.

Echinacea 'Fringe Festival' bursts with masses of thick, hot pink petals that evoke the playful texture of 1970s shag carpeting. Its blooms lack the traditional cone, giving it a bold and distinctive look that sets it apart from other coneflowers. 'Fringe Festival' grows with a stocky habit and reaches a height of 8", width of 16" and flower height of 16", making it a worthy addition to full sun gardens, mixed beds, and borders as well as mass plantings. This variety's fragrant blooms can also be used as a vibrant cut flower; other special traits include low-water usage and being heat- and humidity-tolerant.

USDA Hardiness Zones for 'Fringe Festival' are 4-9. Finishing growers should allow this variety to dry moderately between waterings in the greenhouse. The finish time from a liner to a 4-inch pot is six to eight weeks; the finish time from a liner to a 1-gallon pot is 12 to 14 weeks. Terra Nova's new 'Fringe Festival' grows most actively in summer and blooms from July through October.
