Tulip Day 2025

US: New Yorkers celebrate spring at Union Square

On Sunday, March 30, Union Square was flooded with color as Tulip Day NYC 2025 brought together thousands of New Yorkers to celebrate the arrival of spring. The iconic park in Manhattan was transformed into a breathtaking garden with as many as 170,000 tulips. Visitors were able to create their own bouquet and take it home.

Building on last year's successful debut, this free one-day event gave participants the chance to pick ten fresh tulips from the stunning sea of flowers. From 11:30 AM to 4:00 PM, the festivities created a vibrant atmosphere in the heart of the city, while visitors eagerly collected their colorful spring greetings.

During the festive opening of Tulip Day NYC 2025, a special ceremony took place: the christening of the 'Moonshot' tulip. This high-quality yellow cut tulip is a heavy-duty variety with an unmatched intense flower color. This single yellow tulip can bloom in just 23 greenhouse days. Additionally, the 'Moonshot' has an excellent vase life of at least 10 days.

"We are overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of New Yorkers for Tulip Day," said Mark-Jan Terwindt, CEO of Royal Anthos. "It's wonderful to see thousands of happy faces coming together to celebrate the start of spring. This highlights the special connection between Dutch floral heritage and the American love for tulips. The turnout exceeded our expectations and has firmly established Tulip Day as a beloved spring tradition in New York City."

Tulip Day is organized by Royal Anthos, in collaboration with NYC Parks, the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in New York, and the Union Square Partnership.

This campaign is partially funded with support from the European Union.

The tulips are grown in America, but their bulbs are sourced from Europe. This underscores the strong international trade relationship, with over a billion tulip bulbs exported to the United States each year.
