US (TN): Vanleer’s Country Garden Greenhouse off to a colorful spring with grand opening

Spring is here and it was celebrated in style at Vanleer's Country Garden Greenhouse grand opening on March 14. Despite stormy weather, owner Michael Hagerty was pleased with the community's turnout. "It was a very successful opening weekend," Hagerty said.

The center initially opened in Vanleer in 2009 with owners Treva and Tim Yoder, and then purchased Michael and his wife Jennifer Hagerty. The Hagertys expanded it by adding new plants and a sixth greenhouse for excess vegetable plant production. It also added new perennials including hellebores, lupines, and bleeding hearts.

Growing annuals, perennials, vegetables, ferns, shrubs and trees, Michael said, "We've got a whole range of native plants that we're selling this year, and it's important to a lot of people." It also sells local honey, potting soil, compost, mulch and ceramic pots.

The company has also hired growers, including Krisztina Curry, who previously worked at Nature's Best Nursery, Lawn and Landscape in Nolensville, and employee Rebekah Owen, who has lived in Vanleer for 30 years.
