With the aim to strengthen their presence in the European market, Slovenian orchid producer Ocean Orchids d.o.o., started a collaboration with Wouter Konijn. "With over 15 years of experience in the (retail) business, he is well-equipped to support us in this journey", says Roman Ferenčak of Ocean orchids.

Ocean Orchids has been one of the leading orchid producers and market leaders in Central and South-Eastern Europe for more than 20 years. The company is located in the northeastern part of Slovenia, in Dobrovnik, near the borders of Austria, Croatia, and Hungary. Their production takes place in 40,000 m² of modern greenhouses, where they produce around 2.5 million flowering Phalaenopsis potted plants (in 12 cm pots) per year.
Besides serving the domestic market, their orchids are exported to numerous countries across Europe. "Thanks to the use of geothermal energy and our location at a lower geographical latitude, our orchids have always been produced with a significantly lower carbon footprint compared to all our competitors. Additionally, our strategic location makes markets in Central and South-Eastern Europe closer, further reducing our transport-related carbon footprint."
They have observed that environmental concerns are becoming increasingly important to many of their current and potential clients. "This has been a key signal for us to recalibrate our commercial strategy. We have therefore set our goals on a path to zero emissions."
