Ethiopian growers call for increased government aid

Flower producers and exporters in Ethiopia are calling for increased government support to maximize the potential of the country's flower sector and ensure it contributes more significantly to the national economy.

The Qualirosa PLC International Marketing and Sales Manager Yoseph Abebe told The Ethiopian Herald that the government has already created a favorable environment for the flower and vegetable export industry, including providing cold cargo facilities to maintain the quality of perishable goods. However, he believes that this support should be strengthened further to unlock the full potential of the sector.

"The flower industry plays a vital role in boosting foreign currency earnings and generating employment," said Abebe. "With continued government backing, the sector's overall contribution to the economy can grow substantially."

Abebe's company, Qualirosa, produces over 65 varieties of flowers for export and employs over 750 people. It exports flowers to countries such as the Netherlands, the United States, Canada, Germany, and the Middle East, helping to alleviate Ethiopia's foreign currency shortage.
