FlowerTrials 2022

Gert Hoogendoorn, Manager Sales Phalaonopsis for Anthura, was present at their location to welcome the visitors and show them around the greenhouse.

Anthura organized tours all day.

With its dark green, almost black leaves and the dark red colored flowers Delicata is a 'delicate' appearance.

The Micra. This compact plant with red, heart-shaped flowers is small but strong. Micra has a lot of flowers and has a special appearance because of the contrast between the size of the flower and the leaves.

The violet blue flowers give this variety a very exclusive appearance. Impasto® Blue is a good grower, has beautiful dark green leaves and produces its flowers easily. The compact leaf position makes the variety suitable for both pot sizes 9 and 12 cm.

Anthura Bologna is an orchid with an intense orange colour that gives beautiful multi-branches and many flowers.

Manta Ambon's long tendrils with large round flowers give the variety a generous appearance. With a vase life of more than 20 weeks, consumers can enjoy it for a long time.

The Vanessa Compact Rose from the Compact Series. A mildew resistant variety that produces continuous flowers and is very much heat and drought resistant. This variety has doubled in sales every year for the last three years.

The Calypso Cherry from the Splash Dance series is one of the three new colours added to the series.

Harmony Colorfall is the concept for hanging pots by Danziger and was also presented at the location.

Of course, there was also the opportunity to have a cup of coffee.

One of the Syngenta Flowers Stars, the Rosebud Astrid. This variety is very popular in Scandinavia and is also the Geranium of the Year 2021 by the trade association Blomsterfrämjandet.

The Largo concept, set up in cooperation with Chrysal, was also promoted. It prevents yellow leaf, drop-out and stimulates leaf and bud formation and is now available in the Netherlands, France, Germany and Sweden.

The Ostuni from Van den Bos gives a lot of white flowers. Here only a few buds opened but one can see how many buds are already there.

Roselily Nowa is a nice compact variety in their pot lily series. This variety has a less strong fragrance.

The Euphorbia Milii Series. Normally this is a small-flowering series, but now 3 colours of large-flowering Euphorbia's have been added.

John Nielsen with the kalanchoe outdoor series, available in 10 and 21 cm pot. Because these species are single-flowered, no water remains in the petals when it rains. This preserves the plant's beauty longer.

The location of Graff.

Helle Graff with the novelty Hupiter in the Q-Dula series. The Jupiter does not need a cold period to start flowering. This is exceptional for a lavender and makes it extra interesting for growers as it reduces handling and increases production. In addition, this plant has very good transport properties.

These plants are grown by Garteniet PKM from Denmark. The plants were packed 1 week ago and transported on Thursday. At the moment of taking the pciture, they were standing in the scorching hot greenhouse for 5 days, but they still looked fresh.

Helle Graff with the Q-deville series. This series has strong genetics. What is exceptional about these mandevils is that they do not need any support. Partly because of this, there is so much interest in this series that they have had to scale up production to keep up with market demand.

Graff's PatioQ is the concept for their outdoor, big-pot hybiscus. A new series with a number of existing but also new species.

The Hybiscus range is what Graff has become known for.

The location of Green'05 where Selecta and Evanthia exhibited their products this FlowerTrials.

The team of Evanthia welcomed everyone and informed them about the different specializations of the company, namely the breeding of cut flowers, tropical plants and pot and bedding plants.

Teku Pöppelmann was also present at the location to bring their pots and trials to the attention of the growers.

The Sunsation by Evanthia is a well-known pot Sunflower. Available in single or multi-flower form. Now also available in 4 colours; Yellow, Flame, Lemon & Spirit.

Platycodon Corsa Series are also available in 3 colours; white, pink and deep blue.

The Matthiola StoX Series is still pre-commercial. It was introduced this FlowerTrials and will be available in 2023, in 7 colours. Due to a mix of Japanese and European genetics, this variety has a extra long vase life and is very strong.

At the shared location of Evanthia and Selecta there was of course the opportunity to take a break and enjoy a cold drink.

Ton de Bresser with their new Drums Series which Selecta introduced this FlowerTrials. It is a very compact and uniform series.

The Fancy Francy from Selecta was also introduced this Flowertails. "It is a Calibrachoa with a unique colour, because the combo of pink and yellow does not exist yet."

Joost Rabbering with the Violot Cream Sky 171 from their Bonnie Series. This will be officially introduced next year, probably under a different name.

Eric Jan Slingerland of Selecta with the Petunia Famous Lavender Blush. It was a special FlowerTrials for Eric. He celebrated his 60th birthday this day.

There was certainly no lack of interest.

Beekenkamp entrance

Labella Dahlia from Beekenkamp welcomed the visitors.

At the site of Beekenkamp visitors had the possibility to take notes and give feedback about the products.

The Fun Red White from Beekenkamp's Labella Grande series drew a lot of attention. This year for the first time in the market. It is a plant with a beautiful flower, grows uniformly and is especially suitable for a 15cm pot.

The Fun Flame from Beekenkamp's Labella Magiore series thrives best in a 19-21 cm pot. The variety has many branches and needs less manual labour because you only need to top once.

The Petunia Tea series consists of many varieties and colors, but the main focus in breeding is on on performance.

The Vermillion Hot Pink is the little sister of the award winning Vermillion Red. The Hot Pink is a strong plant with as good a garden performance and weather tolerance as her sister.

At the entrance of HiBreeding, the different stages a hortensia goes through were shown.

The Hi Moon of HiBreeding has been nominated for the Glazen Tulip award and is currently in the semi finals. It is a novelty of the breeder and stands out because of its dark leaf and its distinctive colour.

Hi Ocean trap HiBreeding is a friendly variety to grow and also firm and therefore good for transport. The plant also stays nice at the bottom when planted close together.

The Hi Ice is the whitest Hydrangea the men from Hibreeding have ever seen.

Of course there was time for a beer at the end of the day.

The entrance to Perry van den Haak's garden was stylishly decorated.

Wout Vollebregt, Sales manager at Perry van den Haak, holding a Toscana Ronja. In the back we see a beautiful retro Alfa Romeo.

The DolceVita Mylena is one of Perry van den Haak's highlights at this FlowerTrials. It is a true early bloomer and does not produce yellow leaves.

The Medio Lollipop Mariska is very stable in colour. It is a bicolor and does well in both cold and warm conditions.

Last but not least, Moonflair Amethyst is a dark-leaved Peltatum and also an early bloomer. It produces many branches and is a compact variety that does not need any chemicals to stay compact.

Like in every Flowertails, there are special vehicles on display at P. van den Haak.

And this edition was particularly beautiful again.

It doesn't get any more Italian than this.

There was also the opportunity to cool down and enjoy an ice cream.

There was also a lot to see at this shared location of Kientzler, All Plant, Decock Plants and Plantipp.

The Superlophus by Kientzler will be introduced in 2023 for the 2nd half of the bedding plant season because of its heat and drowth resistance.

The Salvia Rockin series. They can be grown as a series and thrive best in large containers from 2 litres.

Kientzler's Heat Experts concept was developed 2 years ago. In its development Kientzler has selected varieties that do very well in times of heat and drought. These varieties can easily go two weeks without water. So no stress when you go on holiday.

Alexander Kientzler with the Pocket Rose from the Pocket series. This series includes the naturally compact Calibrachoa. They are easy to grow, good for high production and thrive best in a somewhat smaller pot.

They are also loved by bees and other insects.

Ludo Decock, Managing Director of Decock Plants, with his Lavendula Fantasia Purple Flame. It is a continuous-flowering variety from spring to late summer. In this period it constantly makes new buds. Available from week 20 to week 35 in pot sizes 10, 13, 17 and 23.

The Passion from the Osteospermum Gelato series. The series is well known but has now been extended with the Passion. It is a very uniform plant with a wide variety of colours and flowers the whole summer.

Because Decock Plants delivers young plants in paperpots, the grower has at least 20% more yield than with unrooted cuttings.

The sweet potato plants of Decock Plants are also doing well and could count on lots of attention during these FlowerTrials.

The Echinacea Sunseekers series from All Plant are available in 6 different colours.

The Delgenius series consisting of 4 different Delphiniums, the Glitzy, Juliette, Shelby and the Breezin.

At the Plantipp stand, some extra attention was given to the Butterfly Candy. Sold for the first time this year, the whole series consists of 6 colours with all the same plant properties. It is a compact series which is unique for a Buddlejal. It grows to a maximum of only 1 meter in heigth. The species is also the gold winner of the KVBC Summer Challenge.

And of course the butterflies love it too.

The Cutie Pie Rose comes from a Japanese breeder. It is a compact mini rose, mildew-resistant and hardy. The concept was created in cooperation with Arie Bouwman.

Of course, the ladies from Fleuroselect were also present at the Trials. Here we see Ann Jennen and Nadia van Dam at Takii. There Fleuroselect also presented all the nominees for the FleuroStar Award.

A real eye-catcher at the Hortinno stand, the XXL Rhododendron. There are various colours on the way.

The first plants of Hortinno's Kalmia Latifolie were presented this year. It is a winter-hardy plant, up to -30 degrees, and very heat and drought resistant.

Hortinno's Azalia Lime Green and Lime Peach have a flowering period of more than 10 weeks.

The Fuchsia Madiran, from the Jollie series by Brandkamp, is a double flowering red and white Fuchsia.

In the pot Chrysanthemum series the Island Potmums Tamalu, Tamalu Yellow and Tamalu Apricot are the novelties shown at these Trials.

There was also a lot of interest in the Yeti series by Brandkamp. The series consists of white, yellow and beach. It is the same variety as the cut ones, but grown differently and therefore suitable for pots.

The Leopardo by Schoneveld Breeding is the first large-flowering heat-resistant Cyclamen. The series now consists of 7 colours.

Schoneveld's Djix series has been around for two years now. It is a variety that is easy to grow and has a very good shelf life and is very heath resistant.

The pot lisianthus series of Takii, the Julietta Series, now includes 3 colours. It is an indoor, double-flowered lisianthus that was introduced 2 years ago.

The Cannova series is also extended with these 3 new colours.

A true buffet for bees, Panter from Takii received extra attention during these Trials.

The Kalmia latifolia is a sterile hybrid from seed and remains nicely compact and continues to give flowers all summer long.

Of course there was time for a nice cup of coffee at the shared location of Takii.

Klaas Droog holds the Memorial Coin together with Francesca Lanzillotta. MNP Flowers gives this coin to their partners and licensees of the Mandevilla in honour of their 20th anniversary.

The Flamingo Rose from the Sundaville line. Easy to grow and has an attractive retro look.

The Sundaville Gold has a unique yellow colour. It is a strong plant with many flowers, through-flowering and has good transport properties.

After 30 years, MNP Flowers is still the market leader in the Surfinia. This is Lagoon Blue Star. A plant with many flowers and many branches, it is heat-resistant and has a long life. The longevity is due to the fact that the product comes from cuttings. So says Klaas Droog.

Hishtil's stand attracted a lot of attention.

Lavendula Angustifolia Beezee White by Hishtil is a new addition to the Beezee range.

The Lavendula Stoechas series has been extended with 4 varieties; Deep Pink, Deep Purple, Purple and White.

Meilland launched this FlowerTrials their new Friendly line. A friendly line for bees, birds and butterflies. It is a single flowered line and consists of 4 colours.

The Zepeti line was introduced 2 years ago and is growing in popularity. The product is very long-lasting and hardy. And if the winter is not too harsh, it even retains its green leaves. It is also heat and drought resistant.

And a preview at Meilland's location was Street Colors. Good for pots and landscaping. In 2023 this line will become commercial.

The Ponky Peppers also looked tasty again.

Mathilde Thomas and Louise Doucelin, of HM.Clause, together with their Gummy Bear sunflower. It was the Gold Medal winner of the FleuroStar Awards last year. It is a strong plant and flowers very country. Available as a pot, cut and bedding plant.
