India delegation visit Dutch floriculture experts

The Indian government is keen to boost floriculture sector in India with The Netherlands. In this pursuit; Secretary of Agriculture Mr. Manoj Ahuja leads a delegation of policy makers to visit Dutch Plantum, Royal FloraHolland, and HilverdaFlorist (joint venture partner of KF Bioplants, India) in the Netherlands.

Secretary of Agriculture (Government of India), Shri Manoj Ahuja (IAS), led a delegation from Ministry of Agriculture (GOI) to visit HilverdaFlorist BV, Royal FloraHolland, Dutch Plantum, and had a discussion with Dutch breeders on business development in the plant tissue culture/ floriculture sector in India.

At HilverdaFlorist: Shri. Priya Ranjan (Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmer's Welfare & MD, NHB), Mr. Frederik Vossenaar (Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality), Dr. Ranjit Singh (Director of International Co-operation), Mr. Dayanand Appa Sawant (Deputy Commissioner of Dairy Development), Mr. Satya Pinisetty (First Secretary of Economic & Commerce at the Embassy of India), Ms. Tanu Priya (First Secretary of Political Affairs at the Embassy of India), Mr. Sritanu Chatterjee (Senior Policy Advisor at the LNV Department of the Embassy of the Netherlands), Ms. Ilse van Dijl (Ministerie LNV) and Ms. Marieke Florijn from NVWA joined Shri. Manoj Ahuja.

The delegation was invited to watch the dynamics and logistics at Royal FloraHolland in Aalsmeer,the Netherlands. The flower auction building covers 518,000 square meters. Flowers from all over the world —Europe, Israel, Ecuador, Colombia, Ethiopia, Kenya, and other countries — are traded every day in this building. Around 43 million flowers are sold daily. This increases by around 15 percent around special days such as Valentine's Day and Mother's Day. Their flowers are subjected to around 30 quality checks so that they can be graded on a scale.

At HilverdaFlorist; Mr. Bart Sneek (Commercial Director) along with Mr. Marc Rost (Director Finance), Mr. Nico Reijm (Manager Production) and Mr. Marcel Steekelenburg (Area Sales Manager India) gave the delegation a guided tour. Since over three decades there is Indo-Dutch association between HilverdaFlorist and KF Bioplants.

Members of the delegation said: "This visit has helped to provide insight to the world-class infrastructure and professional management at HilverdaFlorist. The delegation also understood the potential of KF Bioplants as well Plant Biotech sector in India to provide quality planting material supply to global market. Many important issues like PRA procedure (Pest Risk Analysis) were discussed to ensure development for the floriculture and biotech sector; especially India's role in shaping the future development of the plant biotech sector."

KF Bioplants expresses gratitude to Secretary Mr. Manoj Ahuja and Joint Secretary Mr. Priya Ranjan and look forward to favorable guidelines and policies propelling the plant biotech and floriculture sector in India.
